which rebuild kit

I was looking on e-bay for a performance rebuild kit for my 1986 305c.i. engine and they had one kit that went up to 1985 and one kit that went from 1987 and up and were priced different. Is there something special I need for this LG4 and is there a specific kit I need? And please don't ask why I just don't put in a 350(I don't have a 350 and I do have a 305)

The 1986 is a "bastard" year. It was the LAST year for the flat tappet camshaft in passenger car engines, so the 1987-up kit (sp[ecifically, the timing set) will not work on your '86 block, as well as any lifters, camshaft, or push rods.

Moreover, the 1986 was the FIRST year for a one-piece crankshaft rear main oil seal, so a kit for a 1985-older block won't work in that regard.

You'll probably do better by piecing together what you need.
