'90 'bird alternater probs
ive been having alternator problems ever since ive had my car. my first one was making these weird noises that sounded like my bearring (however you spell it) is broken. then out of nowhere my belt is nowhere to be found and my alternator is missing a few of those little blades in the front. so i got a new alternator and about a week later it starts making the same noise. ive been lucky for a while for not having to replace this one yet. when i would ask techs, none of them could tell me why they would make that noise. so i was wondering if any of you guys have had this problem before... any ideas?
im thinking a pully kit maybe?

I had the same problem. Where did you buy your alternator from??? I went through 5 alternators that were all purchased from (Schucks, Checker, Kragen, all the same place) Then I purchased my last one from a local battery shop and it has been fine ever since. The above mentioned company has had a history of just fixing what is bad on the alternator and then selling them as rebuilt. This is just my past experience. I had the same problem on my 87 camaro using an alternator from the same place. Of course I am not badmouthing them they are still a decent place to buy parts at a good price
im not sure where the first one came from because it was in the car when i bought it. the one i have now is from o'reilly and it is rebuilt. you think a pulley kit might help take stress off the alternator? or should i just buy a brand new one...?

Have you watched the belt while the car was running to make sure the tensioner pulley wasn't bouncing off the serpentine belt? And are you sure the belt is properly aligned with the grooves of the belt in the pulley grooves? Any of these things could cause a problem. I'd be more inclined to believe one of these things is your problem before believeing that the alternators were the culprit. With the belt off you should also check to see if any of the pulley's are loose, bent or wobbly. Just my
yeah, ive watched it before when the car was runnin. and i dont remember any of the pulleys being loose when i checked. i didnt even think to check the belt alignment in the grooves. ima go check that out and ill let yall know whats up

That might be enough to do it. Replace the water pump and see if the problem persists. Let us know.
