Need some pics please!
Hi everyone, I'm new to the boards after reading for a short time. I was wondering if someone has some stock pictures of how a 84 Z/28 motor looks in the car. Heres the backstory: A friend of mine had a neighbor who wanted me to haul a car to the junkyard for her as it was an old junk car and was her husbands and he had passed away so I said sure. Showed up and found a 84 Z/z8 with no rust sitting there. Apparently this guy was re-building it as the motor was out when he passed away. Harwood cowl induction bolt on hood in the corner, trans and motor and lots of other parts, way to nice to junk! Anyways, ended up getting the car and parts for $ 0.00. She was just happy to see it go. I have had it stored for the last 4 years and am finally getting it put together. Engine and trans are rebuilt and I want to make it look stock, but have no idea what it should look like. I am also missing some brackets for the air con. So, if anyone has some picturs could you please post or send them to me I would be most appreciative. Thanks. Sorry, it was a 305 H.O. originally ( l-69 motor)

Why do you have your heart set on it looking stock? That may just clutter up the area with unnecessary bits. I'd try to keep it as simple as possible. Are you sticking with the L69 motor or is there a new/rebuilt one going in? (ie, a 350?)
2nd, find a helm manual. Google it to find the info, it'll be ~$40, but anyone rebuilding a car NEEDS one of these. It's the service manual GM used back in the day to repair these cars. Not like a haynes where they have 1982-1992 Firebirds and Camaros all in one book, this will be 1984 Camaro only, and it's double the size of a haynes. Worth it's weight in gold. Pictures, wiring diagrams, etc. Very nice.
I only have a few pictures of my LG4, canadian style sans air pump and charcoal canister, so I think it'd be less than helpful to you. Hopefully someone has better pictures.

This sounds like one of those urban legend finds. Like the guy who responds to an ad in the paper for a "53 Chevy, $200", little old lady says her son bought it when he came back from Korea, got killed driving another car, and it has sat in her barn for 30 years.
Oh, well, it happens, I guess (always to someone else, it seems).
Check the Carb forum for a thread called "Post your carb'd pictures here", or something like that. Hundreds of photos, some will look like what you're looking for (mine will be close - don't have the L69 AC hoses or radiator overflow, though).

Welcome Aboard!
The L69 should have a dual-snokel air cleaner. If you donlt have it, it may be hard to find a replacement, but easy enough to duplicate.
The A/C compressor brackets should look similar to any '87 and older V-8, except that in about 1985 a rear brace was added to the bracketry to solve a compressor vibration problem - And retrofit on earlier cars as part of a factory TSB.
If the VEC label is still under the original hood, you're all set. If it isn't there, it should look a lot like this:

Thanks for the replies and advice. I didn't know of the Helms manuals. These seem real close to the GM service manuals that I have for my trucks. I am not restoring the car per se, but I wasn't sure where some of the stuff went since it was in a box, but is easy to figure out with a picture. Yeah, five7kid, does sound like an urban legend
and I'm glad it happend to me. Been slowly working on it and getting it cleaned up as it sat in the ladies garage for 4 years and has been in my dads barn for 4. The guy had a plan, but really took a lot of shortcuts like cutting wires and painting over dirt in the engine bay
which is a pet peeve of mine. I have all the wiring figured out know to at least where I know it will run, just some plugs for sensors that I will figure out in time. It sure is different working on a car again as I have been into trucks for several years and man theres no room compared to them! Tried to post apicture but don't know how to make the file smaller sorry. I is computer dumb!!
