if it's fairly stock, get a spreadbore performer rpm. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

A single plane intake feeds all eight cylinders from the same space or plenum under the carb. A dual plane splits the engine into two halves with two plenums under the carb - one is higher than the other, therefore the title "dual plane".
Single plane intakes work better in the upper RPM range. Dual plane intakes are better at low RPMs and for economy. "Mild performance cam" and single plane would not be a good combination. The Performer RPM mentioned is a dual plane intake.
Performance is a matter of the "package" working well together. Most likely, '78 350 heads are smog-era 882's or something similar - not at all performance pieces. Until those heads are replaced with something better, not much else you do will have much effect. Ditto with exhaust if it is still stock.
