irregular beaing wear?

i have my motor out freshing it,i noticed the center main cap bearing is wearing weird. its only the bottom hafe of the bearing. copper is showing on both sides up near the top, not all the way acrossed only about hafe.but the wear is on oppsite sides. i was talking to a machinist he said the crank could be bent?i had no other bearings even showing copper. anyone one have wear like this before?

whoa, weird.
I would have said you need an align hone.

A bent crank.... possible, but I think it'd strange to have that bearing, and only that main bearing show wear like that.
Possibly a defective bearing?

Don't overlook the obvious. My bet is the bearing caps may have been inadvertantly switched or one was "replaced" with one from another engine.
When the block is align bored at the factory the caps become married to their position on the block. Some blocks do not have them marked for location from the factory. If they aren't marked when they are removed there is no way to tell where to put them back.
See also the procedure for replacing a bearing cap. Replacement caps are always "unbored".
Either that or the bearing shell was bent so that the ends were closer together than normal.
