Code 15, or 16

All of a sudden my SES light came on (Never has since i've owned the car) When I stop the car idles rough at times, and may or may not die..The idle is a bit erratic....Going down the road it is fine...The light will go off sometimes, and other time glow dimly..I bought a code reader deal, and to the best of my ability..I count it to be a 15, or a 16 error......About 2 weeks ago, I disconnected the Air pump, and blocked off all the lines on the manifolds...Just put new Accel coil, cap, rotor, wires, and dizzy.....Plugs are good to the best of my knowledge.....Autozone people told me thet thought it was the oxygen sensor....I did'nt read a fault for that, BUT im new to code reading......The car starts fine in the morning, but as soon as it warms up, I have this problem, can ANYONE PLEASE help me with this????????? It is not fun to drive right now, and I just got my new rear end in, and my shift kit, so I would like to enjoy the ride....Could this have anything to do with the smog pump, or maybe the Cat Converter????? IDEA's?????????? Thanks alot, Tom

Which code (or both)?

Either could be a problem, and if either one is set, the ECM may be operating in Backup Fuel and Spark Mode.

15 - Coolant sensor - low temperature fault

16 - System over voltage - over 17.1 volts

If the coolant temperature sensor circuit is open, or the sensor has failed in an open-circuit mode, the ECM will interpret that as -40º coolant temperature. While that IS possible, it isn't nearly as likely in Texas as around here. When this occurs, the ECM will enrich the fuel mixture and provide almost no ignition timing advance.

Verify the error code, and resolve the problem.

I know the voltage isnt over, cuz I have a digital volt meter in the back of the car.....Could be the 15 code tho...My main trouble is reading the codes.....Well thanks for the reply....Tom

The simple, most effective way to read error codes is to jumper the 'B' and 'A' terminals at the ALDL, turn the ignition to RUN (do not start) and count the flashes of the "Service Engine" lamp.
