1994 Firebird Formula just purchased - LT1 issues

Hey everyone, I know this is totally the wrong site to be at with this car, but I just bought it yesterday and it has a faint knocking in the engine. The knock sounds like its coming from under the driverside rocker arm cover. There was too much oil in the engine supposedly (according to my dad this morning, I myself have not checked) and it was very black. The car has 129K miles on it and runs good. The knocking disappears after probably 5 minutes of running.

I am totally new to this newer vehicle technology seeing as I've been working with my 85 Iroc for the past year. If someone could point me in the right direction, or even a better fourth-gen site or something that would be GREAT!!! Thanks!
