flexplate run out/wobble, how much is too much ?

ok so i swapped the computer carb and HEI for non computer ones, and then hooked up a radiator and a battery and a gas can and such to this LG4 engine i got from the salvage yard, sitting out here under the engine crane/hoist,

and well, the 168 tooth flexplate i swapped onto it(it had a 153 tooth when i got it) had some real bad side to side wobbliness

so i swapped it for another one from the attic stash pile and its alot better but it too has some side to side wobble

is any side to side movement good at all, or how much is too much ?

i also notice that the harmonic dampner has a pretty fair amount of side to side movement too

maybe i could try and take video of it with my digicam possibly

what do you think ?

runs freaking excellent otherwise though, smooth, no smoke or leaks or anything

thanks

Flexplate may wobble less when it has a torque converter bolted to it. i dont know for sure...just a thought.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
It's just a flat piece of sheet metal. Don't expect too much. They pretty much ALWAYS have some runout. It really doesn't make any difference at all.

Flexplates are flexible, by their very nature. Just as long as all the pads on the TC meet up with the flexplate without any gaps with the bolts finger tight, your ok. If one or more of teh pads has a visual gap between it and the flexplate, you may want to investigate farther. This could be a warped plate, or misalignment.

gas can= vroom vroom! starts right up and runs great every time

right but you would figure that with all the centrifugal force it would keep the plate nice and straight -and that there would be no reason for it to be flexing -especially when its not attached to anything but the solid crank shaft flange.

but i suppose not

thanks
