Is it worth it...
My dad and I pulled a 305 out of a 80-something van about two or three years ago. Its been sitting in his garage since then, collecting dust. I got my firebird a few months ago, and was thinking about putting it in, to replace the 2.8L. HOWEVER, my dad tells me there is a crack in the block, probably about 2-3 inches long he says, but doesn't know how deep. Would it be worth it to have the block welded, or just buy a new block? I haven't been able to get around to going to look at the engine yet, so I can't confirm size or severity of the crack. Just want some general opinions on the subject.

sorry took so long to reply......yeah, that's true....I wish I could get a newer block (actually I want my 'bird to be LS1 or LT1 powered - ain't gonna happen), but I'm a little strapped on cash....and I think I'm gonna try to find a 5.7L powered car, truck, or van and take the engine out of it....I'm gonna see what I can find....I haven't found any wrecked camaros or birds to get the engine out of...and our local LKQ U-Pull it parts place only has V6 F-bodies in it....
Thanks for the advice though....I'll try to look towards late 80's early 90's blocks....any ideas on the best donor vehicle? (other than Fbodies)
