Howdy to all....

I'm new to this forum, and I drive ford trucks, but my friend just purchaised '91 Fireberd 3.1V6 with MT5 tranny.

About me.... I love truks! My job is DC trucks and Volvo trucks... I'm technical specialist, so I will not ask stuped quations.

ABout his car.... wight! looks well, but I don know how to pull codes.... Is it OBD-i? it is time to remember blink codes.
But MIL light does not appeares on run.

Abut the problem. Rought a bit idle, smoke from pass side exaust and bad MPG (about 10-12). But he installed new O2 sensor and new EGR. But spark plugs look like they must look (fuel-air mixture is ok), but where is smoke from?????

His car runs fast, about 120 MPG.... But when I tied to drive this car carefully I was surprised looking at fuel gauge.....

i love trucks too i -started out with a 69 F-100 with the straight six 240ci and three on the tree and 9" 4.10 when i was 16 and it went from there - although my next truck and most other trucks since then were chevies i do appreciate most any old truck(especially from my favorite era that being the 67-72 years) in which ive owned a billion of since 94, they are all hard to find nowadays and so i have owned at least one of virtually everything now, probably around 150 or 200 vehicles now, i have all kinds of pics around, some in which i have forgotten where ive uploaded them to over the years, hmm

anyways what kind/color of smoke you guys seeing out the one side and when exactly?

this 3.1L powered car has true dual exhaust ??

hmmm

to pull the codes you jump two of the terminals in the ALDL connector with the ignition position in RUN(dashlights on)

it will blink once and then pause and then twice first(code 12)

and then if there are any problems or codes stored from previous problems then it iwl flash them

alsways a shorter time span pause inbetween flashes if its a two-digit code

long pause if its a single digit codeauto zone and such have a jumper tool and code book for dirt cheap

you could always jut post the codes here and i or someone else could tell you what it is for real quick

but it will be a general system code in most all cases and will take further testing and/or research to figure out the exact problem/cause/component failure

this car has the most basic form of code retrieval/OBD

the plugs should be a light tan and even pattern, and dry, and no bumps or deposits or anything else like that

Well. Like on my aero '89... But where is the connector? How to separate stored codes and current faults?

I dont know codes (I gonna try to look for them on Autozone.com).

The smoke is like a mix of blue and black.... Strange smoke and strange smell. But spark plugs look good, so mixture is ok. I used to work with EGR valves but on diesel engines. My aero has no EGR, Ranger '03 is to yang to be fixed.

As I've understood "Service engin soon" bliks the codes.

I have no tech info about this car. Where is the fuel pressure port and where is IAT???? The other quation, it seems to me there is no crankshaft position sensor, cam-sensor in distributor used as PIP? am I right?

it uses a vr sensor inside the distributor. The distributor is controlled by an igniton control module.
The fuel port is right under the manigold near teh distributor.
the IAT should be right in the intake.

The codes are listed, as well as the method for getting them:
Q: How can I display the error codes from a Service Engine Light?
A: If your car does not have the 12 pin DLC connector, you may not be able to manually "flash" your trouble codes. The language "may be possible" appears to suggest that this method should work with most, if not all, 12 pin DLC equipped cars.

DISPLAYING THE TROUBLE CODES
Run a wire/hairpin from Pin 6 to Pin 12 with the ignition off (although on later cars it should be from Pin 5 to Pin 6), then turning the ignition to the on position without starting the engine will flash the "Service Engine Soon" light in the following sequence: flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause Following this "12" code repeating three times will come any trouble codes stored, flashing each of them three times. If you do not see the "12" flash three times, your diagnostic circuit is defective. Some vehicles will display stored trouble codes, then "12" again, followed by energizing "most system controlled relays." The fuel pump relay will not energize. The idle air control valve will fully extend to enable checking minimum idle speed.
CLEARING THE TROUBLE CODES
Turn the keyswitch to the off position. To clear any trouble codes, disconnect the power feed for 30 seconds. If this is done at the battery, and your car stereo is equipped and programmed with a four digit pin code, you may have to re-enter that as well to use your stereo again. A better place to remove power is at the fuse.

If I see my Ford's plugs so black I use to replace O2 sensor, and I did it. New o2 sensor, but the same effect even if engine was warmed up well. GM ECU strategies differ Ford's. So the quation is, how to calibrate this engine for CO emmission?
