Re: Xtreme Energy vs z cam

Which z-cam are you comparing to the xe274h?

Be very careful comparing, crane measures advertised at .004" lift, vs .006" lift. So if the two companies ground the EXACT SAME CAM and handed it to you, Crane would say it's a few degrees larger (advertised), even though they are identical.
So ignore advertised altogether.

Use duration @.050", and lift. In my personal digging for facts experience, it seems comp seems to get more lift out of less duration than Crane has. Maybe that means the Crane cam will last longer, who knows. Lift is power though.
Lunati's voodoo lineup is even more aggressive still.

I think F-bird'88 is a fan of Crane cams. Most of the others here are comp fans.

You already have the Z cam though, so why does this even matter?

Re: Xtreme Energy vs z cam

Assuming your crane cam is in the range of 230/236* at .050", it probably wouldn't make much difference either way.
I think the compxe274 is like .490"/.501" right?

So which crane cam is it then?

Re: Xtreme Energy vs z cam

Ok, so after digging through your garbled info that you gave in weird order, you have a

Crane Z cam
224/230
.473 .486"

And you're thinking about getting the Compxe274
230/236
.486 .490"

That crane cam is very similar to the compxe268. So you're thinking about going up one step, to the xe274 (or the crane equivalent, if you wanted to).

The comp cam is slightly bigger and will make a bit more power. Not much though, they're pretty close.

Re: Xtreme Energy vs z cam

You only have 2200RPM stall, and it's a 350 right?
Leave it. The xe274 would kill a bit of low end torque. The HP diff is small, 10HP maybe. I think you're in a good place now.

Re: Xtreme Energy vs z cam

bored .040" over doesn't mean squat.
The RPM rating is marketing, nothing more. Specs tell the story.
They have the same 110LSA right? Then the duration @.050" will tell you where they'll make power.
The xe274 is more like 2600-6000RPM, and the zcam will be more like 2200-5600RPM or so.

Re: Xtreme Energy vs z cam

I would invest in a high stall converter. Both/either cam will work a heck of a lot better with a 3000/3500stall 10" converter.
