rumored intake gaskets

An old timer I know keeps telling me about these "special intake gaskets" that i need to put on my 305. I plan on porting and polishing the heads. These "legendary" gaskets he described have some kind of micro-mesh screen in the intake ports that supposedly added h.p. and a good bit of low end torque.

Any idea if they exist?

Groan! Those exist, but they've been determined to be snake oil. Cause more harm than good because the screens eventually get sucked into the engine. Kind of like the Edelbrock foam air filters, "triangle of death", Torker 2 intakes and "3/4 race cams", . Just plain bad.

If it was so great, it wouldn't be a secret, and they wouldn't be hard to find. Don't kind yourself, you (or that guy) isn't smarter than the collective rest of the hot rodding community, and those guys don't run it. Sorry.
You can still find them on Ebay and elsewhere, if you look for them. I forget what they're called, but if you're really set on finding them, you should be able to find them. Try searching on these boards, or google for "intake screens" or something. I think they involved the words "torque" and....
