More Cam and Convertor Selection Help Needed
More Cam and Convertor Selection Help Needed
All right, so I figured out a proper cam to install in my new engine, but I misplaced the specs somewhere, and I need some quick help before I can order one. Basically, I need a cam to fit the following:
355 block
Stock style flattop pistons
Stock rods + balanced crank
416 casting heads, with the usual porting and larger valves
Weiand stealth intake manifold
holley 750 DP carb
Stock lifters, rockers, etc
Blackjack shorty headers, custom exhaust w/o cats
Rebuilt +slightly upgraded 700r4
Convertor selection can be tied in to the cam, so they can be paired for maximum performance. This car will be mostly for street, so take driveability and mileage into consideration. If possible, cam specs are appreciated, so I can shop around and find the best deal and such from different manufacturers. I appreciate any and all help you guys can give me, as usual.
Edit:: Going in to a '85 T/A, if that's important.

Re: More Cam and Convertor Selection Help Needed
That sounds like a familiar combo
Check your CR, it might be a tad high as is.
I like my compxe268, it'd go well with about a 2500RPM stall speed or so.
The lunati 60103 is roughly the same, maybe a hair bigger. It's more aggressive as well - same stall speed recommendation.
I don't remember crane's similar cam. I think it's a Powermax, or a Z-cam. I forget what their "aggressive" ramp one is.
Or the xe274h or 60104, with a slightly larger stall. That'd be a bit more aggressive and mileage wouldn't be as good. But it'd give a tad more HP
Make sure you check your retainer to guide boss / valve seal clearance.

Re: More Cam and Convertor Selection Help Needed
I agree about the CR concern, but I figure I can massage that a little with a thicker head gasket, if necessary. And if it means I need to run higher grade gas, then so be it. Thanks for the cam suggestions, I think the xe268 is the one I had chosen before, so I just ordered one from Summit. I'll shoot for ~2500 rpm for the stall, depending on what's available.
And yeah, your sig sounds about right, just a couple of differences. It's good to see, actually, gives some validation to my setup. Have you dynoed your setup, or done any track runs? Just curious, I know your results won't be the same as mine could be, but some comparison would be nice.

Might be around 3.23, but really, who knows.
I haven't done any hard testing on my car, just got it together before the snow flew last fall.
I've got plans for a new distributor, muffler, and sealing the air cleanr to the cowl induction. Then i'll dyno tune it.
