camshaft help needed
First off im new to this board. So hello everyone. i just got my first car. its a 1987 2.8l camaro. and i did a search for this but i couldn't find what i was looking for. i am in the porcess of installing a new cam and timming chain into my car. It is a 2.8 Multi Port Fi. what i need help with is when i pull out the old camshaft, can i just put the new camshaft in the exact way and be done with it, like line up the three holes and little pin in same direction. i dont know how to degree a cam and dont want to pay some on to do it so would it be possible to just straight up swap them. thank you.

Yup, that's all you have to do.
New timing set, not just the chain, of course.
Degreeing is not "necesssary", as such. Think about it.... you've got a cam, you've got a stock timing chain, what are you going to do if you degree it and don't like what you get? Answer is, NOTHING... all you can do, is either send the cam back, or buy an EXPENSIVE adjustable timing set (which might even not be available for that motor... I have no clue) and put it in where you think it ought to be, which if you don't already have experience with THAT cam grind in THAT application, most likely won't be any better than wherever it happens to already be, anyway. How you gonna know where the "best" point to install it is? Therefore all that "degreeing" amounts to when using stock timing components, is final QC for the cam mfr.

timming
The correct word for the car part though, is "timing".Seriously, you use a gear puller. You can "rent" one at VatoZone or Advance or the like; or even buy one if you want. A suitable one is probably $20-25 or so. Good for LOTS of other things, too.
