Cold/wet start problems
Cold/wet start problems
Wow, ok, so I have a real brain teaser... My 89 IROC seems to have problems starting when it's cold and/or wet. Here are the scenarios:
Condition:
1. Cold and/or wet(rainy) for long periods of time, car won't start/stay running.
2. Colder and/or wetter than typical, car starts fine first time. drive <20-30 minutes, shut off, will not restart/stay running.
Problems:
It has done any and all of these when the car has this problem.
Car will start, and sputter with engine constant at 500rpm, shaking slightly obviously not firing correctly. OR car will start, rev to >1500, down to <300, and continue such pattern until it decides to die.
Trying to even feather the throttle kills the engine instantly in either case. Here's why it's stumping me:
It seems really intermittant.
All injectors seem to be firing like normal idle, even when sputtering at <500.
I'm pretty sonsistantly running HEET in it, so water in fuel should not be a problem.
I JUST replaced the battery and it has a good charge.
AND it seems like once the problem starts, the only solution has been to keep starting it, and letting it die over and over 30-100's of times, until it works, like dumb luck..
Please help, I love this car, and can't stand to see it in such pain!

Re: Cold/wet start problems
Ok, false alarm. After 10 minutes of reading other posts, I disconnected the MAF sensor. SOB started right up. Put on a new MAF sensor that I got with the car, SOB started right up. Trippy... Thanks anyway!
