The value of an honest mechanic ...
Thank God for honest people:
Oil smelled like gas. Antifreeze was dark and thick.
My thought was blown or leaky head gasket.
Went to my mechanic with the problem.
His solution:
1) Coolant system needs to be flushed.
2) Starting the car during the winter for a minute or two at a time (just so some of my friends could hear it run) put gas in the cylinders that didn't get the chance to burn off.
The guy could have taken me to the cleaners. I was, after all, expecting the worst. Now it's a couple of hours in the shop and hardly any money!

Its priceless to have the knowledge, tools, and no fear (no fear of removing bolts). Start with no fear and the tools, and soon you will have the knowledge.
