Greetings everyone... I have a basic stock 6cylinder 88 camaro. My apartment has notified me that they are going to tow my car because it appears to be inoperable- it technically is operable, just runs like dog poo poo and overheats and does all kinds of other things, but it ran enough for me to drive it to the office and say "see it works, so keep the tow trucks away"
The car sits more than it is even started these days.

i just now tried to start it up and the little witch, wont start. SHe's making a fluttering sound . Ive heard starter problems before, but they were more along the sounds of a clunk or click click and this sound is a flutter flutter. Could this be the starter and if so, is there something i can do to get her to start. I'm going to need kindergarden level explanations of what to do.
I tend to cause more damage under the hood than fixing whatever needed fixed - like my idle has been really weird ever since i replaced the thermostat
and i found this forum trying to find out just where the starter even is.

anyway, im in a small state of panic and the apt mgrs office closes in one hour before they call and arrange having me towed away 1st thing in the morning...

10$ says it is the battery. If you can get it to turn over and it wont start spray starting fluid in the intake, it will start right up... It wont fix your overal problem but it should sufice.

will it turn over like it is supost to but wont start, i think it is your battery. Go turn on the car and tell me what it says in the voltage guage. it is on the dash, it should have numbers on it it should have 12-13 in the middle. go see what it says.

 

The battery is low. Either jump start it using another vehicle, or drop in a new or known good used battery. Don't worry about spraying anything anywhere at this point. Jump starting it would involve connecting the positive cable of the car with the bad battery to the positive cable of the car with the good battery with the red lead of a set of jumper cables and connect the ground cable of the car with the good battery to the negative cable or good ground connection of the car with the bad battery with the other lead of a set of jumper cables. Good luck.

 

the gauge is only reading at 8-9, needle is in the red zone.
is it ok to put any battery into the car. I have a 93 chrysler that has a new battery in it i could swap out to get her to start if it wouldnt hurt anything.

would the battery go dead in a months time? thats the last time the car was started and she ran so bad i didnt let her run more than a few minutes.

do you think the chrysler battery would be safe to use??
i greatly appreciate your help - i dont want to loose my car to an impound yard

it will be fine, just make sure you conect it the corect way the terminals may be reversed. +to+ -to -. Jumper cables would be easear.

 

ok battery here i come, should there be some loud explosion within the next 10 minutes, we'll all know i did something wrong... ha ha

A potential problem with that plan........there's a good chance that the Chrysler has a battery with top posts and your Camaro probably has side posts. Maybe you'll luck out and the Chrysler will have one of the cheap universal batteries that has top and side posts. You may want to check that out before you pull the battery out of the Chrysler.

 

I was just thinking bout that, but most "new" inexpensive bateries have both so lets hope. Also if the terminals are reversed the factory conections probley wont reach. But i dont think he/she has jumper cables. A quick jump start woukld be much simpler.
