Engine Hesitation after stopping - Code 44 Just Popped Up
Hey everyone, 3 days ago I took out my z28 for a short trip (7 miles) it was nice and warm out. It was an inner city drive and I hit a few lights. I noticed a bit of a hesitation while I was driving. I came to a light and stopped and when it turned green I accelerated normally and the car took a second to go forward (hesitation) and then it jumped forward as if the fuel had finally got to its destination. It felt like the car was about to shut off but didn't. No CODE till today popped up.
Symptoms:
- Car is hesitating/stumbling when I am at a light. Feels like its going to shut off but doesn't.
- Code 44 Just popped up which indicates lean exhaust (As per the 02 Sensor)
Changes:
- Checked my plugs they are fine (Only 20k)
- I just swapped in a new fuel filter (previous one had 12k) yesterday seeing if that fixed the hesitation but it didn't when I test drove it. After I got back from the test drive the Service Engine Light came on and gave "Code 44".
Code 44 - Manual says it could be:
- 02 sensor (I don't think that is the case since car is hesitating)
- MAP Sensor
- Lean Injectors (Car has 107k on it)
- Fuel Pressure
- Exhaust Leak
Anyone have any thoughts on most affordable way to tackle this?

I would first check fuel pressure. Hook a guage to the schrader valve check fuel pressure. If this checks ok then I would hook a vac guage to the fpr and see if it holds vac. Check this two things and let us know what you find out.
