Re: What oil should i use?

What part of California and what engine / mods etc.

I run Shell Rotella T 15W -40. It's meant for diesel engines but it has lots of zinc in it which protects against wear. It was recommended to me by a retired service manager for a Police Department, he swore by it.

When the motor was fresh I used Mobil 1 but I use too much oil now to use Mobil 1. That's one reason the rebuild is being scheduled.

Re: What oil should i use?

be careful, factory small block oil pump drives have a nylon coupler in them, personally id be afraid to use 20-50 alone on a high mileage unit, and a 3:2 20-50 lucas mix in a low mileage motor due to the wear on the drive, but if you've replaced that shaft with an all metal one, id say go for it, also i wouldn't run it if the motor has a high volume oil pump because it would be more prone to sucking the pan dry with a heavier oil, also don't use a 10-40 oil as the polymers in it don't last like other oils

I live in the bay area in mountain view by san jose. It is cold and rainy in the winter and hot in the summer.

As for the motor i am not sure of the CID because i forgot to ask my friend i bought it off, but it is a 350 base either bored to a 355 or stroked to 383. It has alum. heads with 2.02 valves, Lingenfelter Accel Super Ram, Headers w/ sual high flow cats and 3" exhaust, MSD 6AL Box
