Whoops... Rev over RED!

I don't know if it's really bad for the car but I was parked after a hour cruise and my buddy drove past in his stang and gave me a little rev and I did a big one that went a quarter past the red line.

Did my engine take any damage?

I'm new to Camaros so IDK if its gonna be a big problem or not...

-Peace

Re: Whoops... Rev over RED!

It probably didnt help it any, but if it didnt throw a rod out the side of the block i wouldnt worry about it...

Ok, I wasn't sure if I was gonna wake up tomorrow with my block cracked...

I'm more worried about these little punks slashing my tires... I gave them the finger after they told me to burn out... wtf I was with my dad...

Re: Whoops... Rev over RED!

You're dad might have enjoyed the little smoke show. Would have been cheaper too since your tires may get slashed now

Re: Whoops... Rev over RED!

if you dont see smoke coming out the exhaust, a rather large dent/hole in the oil pan, or your motor start running weird, you should be ok.. i would recommend you not do that again..

if it was me with my dad, i woulda put up new clouds in the sky.. and surprisingly, my dad probably woulda laughed.. i never just mash it down and rev.. i just give it some part throttle blips..

Re: Whoops... Rev over RED!

Factory tac's are not very accurate at higher rpms. Just because it showed it a 1/4 past the red line does not mean it really rev'ed that high.

Re: Whoops... Rev over RED!

You can over rev a SBC engine with no harm as long as you don't run it for long periods over the redline. So No Harm No foul.

Re: Whoops... Rev over RED!

As long as you don't hit the limitation of the valve train I doubt you did any damage. Even then, I've accidentally revved to the point of valve float on a couple occasions and still never lost an engine to it.

Re: Whoops... Rev over RED!

I doubt it did anything... My stock trans had a carbonized 2-4 band and bad 3-4 clutchpack and the engine would rev to 6.5-7k on the 1-2 shift. Still in one piece with lots of miles on it, for now...
