Changing Cylinder Heads

My valves are going and I have been wanting to change my heads with a alumium set. Can I get some tips and tricks before I do this. I only have my old Haynes for information. Can I get some advice to make my job easy.

Also will my compression change with new heads. My engine currently has high compression?

Re: Changing Cylinder Heads

dont just change the heads... if you have burned up the valves then it is probably time for a rebuild... with just changing the heads you will probably start having blowby issues even thought the 100k+ mile rings are still sealing will they with the added compression of fully sealing valves?

as long as you retain the same CC combustion chamber your CR shouldnt be affected...

no stock engine has "high" compression that would be a trick used to sell the car

ADVICE: Have another car on standby cause you will need to go some where as soon as you get the heads off... it always happens

Buy a good engine book and read it carefully. You can learn alot from a good book. I have several.

I had a compression test done to it. From what I remember there was a average of 140 psi per cylinder. The original heads were shaved, which was a problem with sealing the air intake manifold. And I couldn't use regular unleaded gas because it burned to hot for my engine.

I wish I had the shop manual.
