Engine & trans identification
Engine & trans identification
I need to find the year of my engine since it had been swapped when I got the car. Are the numbers located the same place as older blocks? What's the best way to get to them?
On the transmission, which T-56? I have the ratios for a close ratio and a wide ratio but don't know which one I have. Do the numbers cast into the trans case mean anything? It has 13-86-212-901-11 (may be an H).
Thanks,
Rob

howdy there, i dont know about the manual trannies but the engine stamping suffix code is on the front pad under the alternator, need a flashlight and something to clean off the paad with, usually a long screwdriver works
or a small wire brush
t-5 codes may be on google, search
good luck

howdy there again
naaa you should only need a decent flashlight, the digits are pretty good size on that pad, ive never been able to not see them with just a flashlight, as long as the block hasnt been millled or something
then they would be gone
youll be looking for three letters/numbers, suffix, if its 70-up
if before then only two digits/numbers
thats the rule of thumb for the suffix codes on 90% of the blocks anyways
the rule of thumb gets broken because some replacement blocks after 70 were only two digits for example, and i think the MK one was a mexico suffix

checking the suffix code on the engine is the first thing is do when looking at or buying a vehicle or engine,
i have passed up on many that ended up being soemthing i didnt like, such as a 267 or 305 or something else crappy(when someone claimed it was something else/better which happens very often because ppl dont know much or like to brag or just want to make a quick/misleading sale)
hows the 67 ?
i think we discussed it once now i forgot, too much has happened since then lol, i love them trucks alot, my favorite of any other trucks ever made were the 67-72's by far, i miss every single one ive ever had now i dont have one at all :-( will find another some day again, preferably a 68(i prefer the sidemarkers i think these look better with them) or a 71/72 with a 68 nose and 67-71 doors(best looks and best brakes
good luck

Re: Engine & trans identification
I'll give it a look this weekend if I don't go rock climbing. My wife and 5 year old grandson are begging me to take them. Plus it will be the first chance for my 2 year old grandson to go and he's already climbing the rock wall beside the house.
