Thermostat change
I plan to replace the thermostat and coolant sensor on my 305. The books I'm referencing say to drain the coolant. Is this necessary? Years ago I replaced a thermostat and I don't remember draining the coolant. There was just a little overflow when the top hose was removed.

Re: Thermostat change
It would also be a good idea to flush your cooling system since it probably hasnt been done in a long time. Draining the coolant will just make the job cleaner.

Re: Thermostat change
Just drain it 1/3 of the way. You just need it so that the level of the antifreeze is below the intake manifold. You dont have to drain it, but once you pull the top hose, antifreeze is going to spill all over your intake.
