My 1992 RS now won't start - please help...

A friend recently donated a 1992 Camaro RS to be used as a float in a parade. It has over 100,000 miles on it, and it is more than a little beat up. It has a V6 engine and it was fine up till now. As I was modifying the car for the parade, I accidentally cut the three wires on top of the gas tank. I disconnected the battery and spliced them back together with wire nuts. The car ran fine, though I began getting the airbag "IFNL REST" on the dash. I took it for a half hour test drive and put some high octane gas in it. I worked on it some more, then I tried starting it hours later and the starter just turns and the engine won't catch. Sometimes after I release the key it will start but only sputter for a few seconds before stalling. A bunch of kids (and myself) are counting on this vehicle, can anyone please help?
Thank you in advance,
Dave

Surely not wire nuts! Those are meant for solid wire in a non-vibration setting like your bedroom wall. Get some buttsplices and redo that first.
BTW what modifications do you need for a parade?
