Re: how do u set timing

get a vaccum gauge, unplug the vaccum line to the carb from the distributor and hook the vaccum gauge to it, hook up the power for the timing light, loosen the 9/16 bolt hold down on the dist, start the car and get it to warm up, then point timing light at the timing marker, make sure the dial is set to 0, then move the dist till its at the mark u want, tighten and drive and see if you like it

Hooking up a vacuum gauge to the vacuum advance accomplishes nothing.

Point the light at the timing indicator down by the damper. Hook the clamp on an ignition wire (I use the #1). With the light hooked up and the engine on, pull the trigger. It will flash when that plug fires. When it flashes, the timing score line on the damper will be roughly in the area of the timing tab. Rotate the distributor either clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the base timing.
