intermittent starter cracking speed ...

3 weeks ago i wanted to go cruising, but like the idiot that i am i fluded the enigne, whatever i removed the plugs dry them out but iwuz wroking slowly and the sun whent down so out of time and light i placed the plugs back in fingure tight and slapped the wires back on worng firing order just to get the car in the garage, so i did and well a couple of days agao i went to start her up she ran a little rough so i fixed the timing ( by now i have completley forgetten about finger tightening the plugs ) so i go cruising, driving and shifting hard, having fun, then i start back firing al sorts the car runs like **** and kept stalling, it must of stalled at least 30 times before i made it home, when i got there and parked i could smell the srarter from the driver seat, i let it cool down while i remembered about the plugs im a dumbass, regardless i got to crank and the starter would cracnk slow then fast then slow really slow the lights would dim out, i though batt, charged it tried again, nope maybe starter smelled bad, chnaged starter, nope same prob, maybe i fried the batt wires by overheating, chnaged batt wires, and cleaned ground, nope still smae prob, i have no multi meter but im pretty convinced that the starter is getting 12v and enough amperage from the batt, i think i may have fried a ground somewhere or something, if anyone has a next step for me i would apreciate it, and yes i have fuel rebuild starter new batt wires new batt and my prob is the starter cranks slowly for long and fast for short period of time to short to start ... help i want to drive car, very little time to work on it ...

Re: intermittent starter cracking speed ...

Starter needs to be shimmed. its too close to the flywheel. The starter gear is binding on the flywheel gear.

Re: intermittent starter cracking speed ...

Every starter/block is alittle diffrent. Some need shims some dont need them at all. Did you mess with timing, could be to far advanced.

Have you checked the voltage regulator in your alternator?
