rocker arm stud help!

rocker arm stud help!

well after adjustin g my rocker arms every couple days i realized that one has been backing out causing my rocker arm to appear loose, well it got to the point where the threads got stripped and its almost backed all the way out, i bought a replacement and want to install it but cant figure out how to remove the old one.. they are the pressfit ones not screw in style.. any help would be great, i need to get my car back up and running asap to get to work and such.. thanks

Which threads are stripped, the stud or the nut? If the stud threads are okay, then stack washers under a new nut (non-locking will make the job easier) and pull it out by running the nut against the washers. Add more washers if necessary to get it all the way out.

Is the new one also press-fit? Freezing the stud with dry ice and pushing it in is one way of installing.

If it's screw-in, then pull the head. Machining required (at least cutting threads, depending upon the exact type of stud).

I don't know the details on your motor but you could be putting more pressure on the pressed in studs than they were designed for.

stud and nut are stripped, stud not too bad but its deffinately there.. its the pressfit type not screw in.. im gonna go try that washer idea cause the stripped portion isnt till about halfway down the threads.. thanks

got the old one out, new ones most of the way in, couldnt find dry ice so i froze the stud.. been poundin the crap outta it for awhile needs a good 1/4 - 1/2 before its all the way in.. thanks for the advice about the washers, it helped alot
