distributer difference

recently a fellow member sent me his "primer" that he used on his engines. The distributer itself is from his 89 SBC(L98). He made this dist. to be a oil pump primer. Well, I got it and tried to use it, and it doesn't work on my oil pump :?

Just look at the difference between it and HEI dist...

can somebody clear this up?

Re: distributer difference

The oil pump drive shaft should still fit easily into that primer.

Re: distributer difference

The only significant difference is that the distributor gear is tapered around the oil pump drive tang to help locate the oil pump shaft when it's installed. It might take a little effort to get the primer lined up, but it should work fine.

Re: distributer difference

Nope. I just tried to literally hammer my spare pump shaft into that distributer out of an L98, won't even try to go in, yet with my HEI dist. the pump shaft slide right in. There is definately a difference between the L98 dist, and the HEI one... I'm sure if the HEI one is big block or what, but would that be the difference? The HEI fits my L98 stock pump just fine
