starter problem, suggestions please
Hello,
I put two new NAPA starters in my camaro over a year, and also put new 650 cranking cold amp battery Interstate. I have had the whole electrical system checked, every looks great....but occasionally after a few around town start stop errands, when engine is warm, when you go to start the car, it very slowly turns over, so I usually have to get a jump, starts right up. Of course the car starts great when cold, or little use. I have 5 spd, and occasionally stall, it does same slow start. I talked to two mechanics, they suggested I get a starter that is low geared, and I may, but here is what I read somewhere and was wandering if this may be what is happening.....I read if the starter is near exhaust it will heat up starter, and deteriates the electric causing it to hardly turn over, I hear they have an insulating product that you put over starter to keep this from happening...is it possible that is all it is?? I am not sure how close my exhaust is to my starter...anyone know? would a insulater help?? I have a z28 305 H.O...am assuming it is large exhaust pipe. Appreciate any help, thanks,
Dennis
