riddle me this
Kind of a last resort trying to find someone to diagnose what is wrong with my car over the internet, but I've taken it to the shop twice and paid for a diagnostic check (mechanics seem to be incompetent around here because they could not figure it out), and replaced numerous parts trying to figure it out and I'm getting really frustrated.. Car is a 91 RS 305 TBI. Symptoms: It idles rough, runs way too rich and a lot hotter than I think it should, and spark knocks when it is hot. Recently replaced items (trying to figure this out): EGR valve and solenoid (had code 32 at first, but not anymore), coolant temp sensor, fan switch, plugs, wires, battery, PCV valve, rebuilt TBI unit, MAP sensor, maybe more that I am forgetting right now.
I recently got use of a Snap-On scanner, but I do not really know what I am doing, but here are some things that looked out of place to me: 1)There was a check procedure in there for a couple of things, and I did the CTS one (remember I already replaced that) that had a reading for it plugged in, and it was in the specified range, but then it said to unplug it and jump the connector (I placed a paper clip between the terminals) and that reading was out of range. 2) The scanner data was way off from what my guages were reading, when my guage said that my coolant was 220 degrees, the scanner was saying it was only at about 100, and the fan kicks on about 225 degrees(from the guage reading, when the scanner is still at around 100), my volt meter reads at about 10-11 with engine running (reason why I replaced the battery and was planning on replacing my alternator because it should be at about 13), but the scanner says it is at about 13, where it should be. 3) When the engine is warmed up, and the scanner is reading my coolant temp at around 100 degrees (220 at dash guage), the MAT temperature reading is at 34 degrees. 4) The scanner showed that it had code 43 stored (ESC) but I do not how long ago that popped up as I have gotten numerous SES lights since this problem, and I was not sure if it had something to do with anything that the mechanics had done, so I cleared it out and drove around for a while to see if it would pop back up, but it did not.
Timing is one of the first things that I checked, and it is set at about 6 degrees advanced.
The only things that I can come up with is maybe it needs an ignition module, ESC module (maybe that code 43 was right?), or that my computer is bad, any of which cost more than I want to spend to find out that it it NOT the problem.
Anyone have any ideas?

Code 43 will be set when you disconnect the ECM wire to set the timing. If you didn't disconnect that wire when you set the timing, it's extremely retarded now which will lead to most of your symptoms.
What's the state of the O2 sensor?
Sensors such as the CTS and TPS should have 5 volts going to them. If that's low, the readings will be low at the ECM.

Re: riddle me this
Wow, that was a fast response, thanks. But anyway, I did not actually set the timing, just checked it (and yes I know to disconnect that wire), and also the 02 sensor is new (I knew I was forgetting some things when I typed that). Also forgot to mention that I have two IAC valves, and have completely cleaned both of them and tried them both, and tried two different TPS sensors (got a code for that after rebuilding the TBI, but that seems to be fine now).
