Hard vibration with A/C on only

At Idle, or between 600-900 RPM, my whole car has a wicked vibration from the A/C compressor. Literally wild! The rear hatch even vibrates!
It's got a R-134A conversion, new orifice tube, new drier, flushed system. 4 ounces of PAG oil, 2.5 lbs R134A.

Turn the A/C off, and it's smooth as silk.

I live in Arizona, driving without it is not an option....

Has this happened to anyone? More importantly, what did you do to fix it!

Thanks

Check to make sure the harmonic balancer is not loose on the crankshaft or the damper ring has not shed its rubber. Check that the crank pulley is not bent or has missing bolts. Both of these are uncommon.

Re: Hard vibration with A/C on only

The balancer is tight and true....

The vibration is only when the A/C is on.

Re: Hard vibration with A/C on only

I have a similar problem. it vibrated so hard, it cracked the alum tubing manifold coming off the back of the compressor. I suspect it's the clutch, but replacing the clutch costs about the same as replacing the compressor.

I haven't fixed mine yet, kinda strapped for funds, other priorities. on hot days I do suffer but luckily I'm not in AZ.

Re: Hard vibration with A/C on only

mine does it too. it's probably the compressor going. once i had it running and it must've locked up or knocked real real hard because it busted off my power steering pump mount, disabling my car with two chickies riding with me. that was fun.
