Motor Laid Down...
Well, to anyone that has followed my saga the 2nd rebuild finally went.
Thought I was having a rod knock and turns out ITS LOUD! Time for a bigger cam, splayed mains, possibly forged crank, windage tray etc.
Its GONNA be done right this time. I hope the rods are too out of round and my crank is okay. Machine shop prics are getting rediculous.

Might want to track down the source of your failures. You've gotta be doing something wrong right? A rod knock is a pretty big mistake, bad machine work? Plugged bearing oiling groove? What caused it?
Let us know when you tear it down.
I'm guessing the FI system is still ok, and the carb is back on the shelf then?
Hmm, I might end up beating you to it then, I might have my car running first!

Nah...sticking with the carb. Even though the new motor is going to need a bigger carb (Mighty Demon) because I'm going to throw in a much bigger cam due to the EFI being tossed.
My buddy said I have the incorrect bearings...
He says the Scat 9000 crank I have needs chamfered bearings where I just got standard bearings. Apparently this has already happened with a local club member? But I think I would have for sure noticed that.
Either way, the car is making a terrible sound so something is defenitly wrong.

Re: Motor Laid Down...
Are you sure it's a rod knock? What's the oil pressure?
Could it be a crank part hitting the oil pan? More than one perfectly good motor has been torn down for that....
How long did it run before it started doing this? Was it ever completely quiet?

Re: Motor Laid Down...
oil pan hittin? how were the clearances from the crank/rods/bolts to the pan rails and all around? not sure if any are available but if possible i would try find a stroker pan that has a stock size sump.. a flared sump(ie milodon) gives up alot in header clearance.. its a "female dog" to put long tubes in and out.. ask the bump in my oil pan about that one.. Well, this shortblock has been together before and nothing was wrong with the bottom end. Pan rails were clearances (not with a die grinder either) and the noise started after about 3 hours of run time.
I guess this is a case of incorrect bearings

Re: Motor Laid Down...
UPDATE....
While I had a gash in the #1 main bearing nothing was spun. I got the thing line honed and hopefully that will fix the low oil pressure issue.
The "normal" rod bearings looked perfect while the main bearings looked like the caps were walking. I still elected to go with chamfered bearings all around. The oil pan did have some scratches, nicks, gouges down the passenger side around the dipstick. Its all back together and nothing is hitting while its on the stand so those marks are unexplained still.
Went with a bigger cam and kept the Speed Demon for now.
