Re: CONVERT MY CAR TO CARB

I'm just finishing up a swap from 350 TPI to a 383 carb setup. The tech article is a good place to start. It is located here: https://www.thirdgen.org/carbswap

Oh, and welcome to TGO. There's a wealth of information here on just about everything (including carb swaps). Prop your feet up, do a quick search on 'carb swap' and start reading. If you have any questions, the folks here are usually happy to help.

TPI to Carb is actually easier than the other way around. Make sure you change out your fuel pump in the tank or get a bypass regulator added in. I went to TPI and had to change everything to make it work properly and like it was out of the factory.

Re: CONVERT MY CAR TO CARB

Why not trade with someone who has a carb car and wants a TPI?

I hate to see good TPI cars hacked up like that.

Re: CONVERT MY CAR TO CARB

That should be all there is to it (basically). You will, of course, need some assorted fittings, fuel line, etc to plumb everything. If your fuel pump doesn't work after the swap you may have to rewire it a bit. We can help with that if needed.

I'm a DIYer and I think carbs are a huge pain in the butt.

There's nothing like sliding into the driver's seat and adjusting the fuel and spark without going under the hood and getting my hands dirty with fuel and grease.

Re: CONVERT MY CAR TO CARB

im thinking of doing this myself, but for a road racer. would it be easier to swap an entire motor, or just take all the TPI stuff off and use a carb setup?

Re: CONVERT MY CAR TO CARB

I have converted my car from throtle body to carb but it doesn't act like it will fire up. It sparks the spark plugs but won't run. It will backfire every now and then. I'm not sure what is wrong... Could anyone help???

Read the "Introduction to PROM burning" tech article on this website. You need either an Ostrich or an Autoprom from www.moates.net and a laptop. That'll give you infinite control over your car's engine from the driver's seat.
