Iron duke no spark, need suggestions..
Helping my friend with an iron duke, cant get it to start. It isn't getting spark to the plugs. Has 12 volts on both sides of the coil, tried replacing the coil and still no spark. Anything else it could be besides a bad igniton module? Its a 2 barrel rockchester on it.

You've got a few options. I'll start at one end and go to the other. The plugs themeselves: are they fouled or cracked? The wires: do they have continuity? Do they look damaged? The cap and rotor: are the worn out? The ignition coil: you said you've already replaced this so we'll assume it's good. The ignition module: is it providing a switching ground for the coil? If not, does the pickup coil ohm out within spec? And then of course we have to have power and ground.

the ignition module isn't providing a switching ground as far as I can tell (measuring across + and - on the coil while cranking). Not sure what kind of resistance reading I'm looking for at the pickup coil.. could that be my problem?

Yes. A pickup coil is a really cheap part, but can be a pain to replace if you've never done it. I did it once when I was 19 and didn't know spit about cars, so it's not THAT bad. The ignition module is WAY easier, but is a little more money. Pull the 2 pin connector for the pickup coil off the ignition module and check resistance between either terminal and ground. If it is anything other than infinity than it is shorted to ground...replace. Nominal resistance through the coil (across both terminals) should be between 500 and 1500 ohms to the best of my knowledge. If this all checks out I would suspect the module.

hmm turns out its a points dist. (marine application) wish I realized that before.. all this time I was assuming it was some sort of HEI system.. now I'm leaning more towards a problem with the points themselves or the condenser but I'm not too familiar with points systems.. guess I shoulda pulled the cap off and looked..
