engine rebuilt...
Hi guys im rebuilting my self a 1995 lt1 +cam rockers and springs ...but the guy who store the engine before i bought it did'nt block the injector hole for 2 years...there is no rust in the cylinder chamber but a lot of dust and rust dust...is it true that when you remove piston and rod off an engine that you cant put them back? without remplacing ring and hone cylinder???
Re: engine rebuilt...
if you're rebuilding it what does it matter if you can or not. i don't think there'd be any reason you couldn't get them back in. how well it worked after you did it is another question.

Re: engine rebuilt...
I suppose you can but the rings wear into where they've been riding. Rings are cheap and so are bearings. If you're there you'd might as well freshen it up.

A simple honing tool is about $40, run in an electric drill. Get a buddy to pour diesel fuel over the tool slowly while you use it. Try to get the 45* cross hatch going on. New stock size rings and pistons and you should be set.
Assuming the bores are in good enough shape and don't require a bore job, and the crank doesn't require turning.
