Seperating power steering pump from reservoir
The parts store didn't have the power steering pump with the reservoir, so I had to buy the one without a new reservoir. So now, how do I remove the pump from the reservoir? The reservoir is that thin sheet metal, I figured hammering on it would destroy it really fast.
?
Thanks

step 6
tap lightly and work your way around.

Re: Seperating power steering pump from reservoir
Hey thanks.
I thought the stud and the nut on the back were cast into the shell - I was wrong. That holds it to the pump!
After removing those, I tapped it gently with a rubber mallet and it came off nice and easy.
I really shoulda gotten a pump with the reservoir, now i'll have a nasty looking reservoir on a nice new pump...

Sonix, May I recommend an inline filter? I use Cardone 20-FLT2 which can be ordered from Kragen (I don't know what they're called in your area) or probably any other place that carries Cardone products.

Its around $20, I started using them to keep hydroboost units clean but it doesn't hurt to keep crap out of the gearbox either.

Re: Seperating power steering pump from reservoir
Apparently GM has the reservoir, at least according to that link. That PS pump is incredibly common, so i'd think it'd be available.
chesterfield - Where does that install, on the soft hose (suction side?) or the high pressure side? Wouldn't that be a tight fit?
I'll see if it's available around here, but I kinda doubt it.
