Timing Questions
Timing Questions
I am hoping to get some advice/suggestions from you guys.
I have an 84 Camaro RS with a 305. I yanked out all the computer garbage and installed edelbrock intake, 600 cfm carb and a Vacuum advance no cpu HEI Distributor.
My question is that my engine wants ALOT of advance. I set it at 6* with the light and it made for a really smooth idle but it feels really sluggish. Should I just keep bumping up the advance until I find the sweet spot?
Thanks in advance. (Ha no pun intended!)

Re: Timing Questions
You want the advance all in before 3000 RPM, with about 34 degrees total, give or take a little depending on what your engine likes.
BTW you'd have been better off keeping the stock stuff, it wasn't holding you back at all.
