Cap and rotor creating problems

I did my timing today so I can pass emissions, and it helped me to pass. I made the timing so it was at top dead center, now when i start I dont have white smoke anymore. The kid I got my car from (89 IROC 305 TPI) had it adavanced alot, with it advanced the perormance was great, but now its like a dog!!! I drop it in 1st and step on it and it doesent pick up at all, Its so slow!! He said theres a hypertech chip in it, I dont know were it is, but im not sure if its affecting anything. I also have MSD Ignition system. Now that I passed emissions, should I advance the cap and rotor again? But I cant stand that white smoke when I start. I replaced my EGR valve and oxygen sensor it helped alot

Without sounding like a smartass, my question to you is: What do YOU care more about---How it runs or how it starts?

The issue with white smoke is: How much white smoke? Are you mysteriously losing water from your radiator? Have you checked your coolant level (don't do this when the engine is hot)?

The Hypercrap chip (if it does indeed have one) should be located in the computer located above the front passenger's feet, behind the dash.

White smoke only when I first start up, now when I start up after doing the timing no white smoke at all, could the Hypercrap be affecting my performace?
