comp cam pro magnum rocker noises
hi all
i run full roller pro magnum rockers on my 396..
the engine was real quiet at the beginning, now i can hear some click-snap noises, with no rule in them... like tap-tap,tap-tap-tap
a friend of mine have a big block, his valve train sounds similar..he says its normal....
my cam is 234/238 .565lift hyd roller, springs are 170@seat, 400@open
i know, this is some pressure, but i checked with the tech at lunati, and he says, thats fine...
thank you

Re: comp cam pro magnum rocker noises
ok, heres an update...
i removed the valve covers, and checked everything...
rocker have no up and down play, pushrods are straight...
i run the engine with the valve covers removed, no noise appearant...
rockers move fine, no abnormal things to observe...
only thing, the rockers have a good amount side play (you can turn them a bit with the hand), and every time the pushrod runs to the guide plate, theres a small "click"
oil comes fine from all lifters...
i put the covers back on, started the car, noise is here....
the noise seems to come rather centered from the engine, seems to be direct under the intake.......maybe a wiped cam lobe??
hooked up datamaster, no knocks, timing is fine.. i pulled the plugs, fine tan color...
any ideas?`
thank you

Re: comp cam pro magnum rocker noises
I have aluminum roller rockers on my 355, they are very noisy. When I first started the engine I thought the rockers were hitting the valve cover. It seems to be the nature of the beast, big valve springs, an agressive cam and roller rockers = tick, tick, tick.
