K&N air inlet pieces.... Do they really do anything?
I am running some junk air filter and housing and i finally have some $ to spend on a nice one to go on top of my forged 386. Do those K&N black plastic things that smooth the transition really do anything? They are pricey and look pretty mundane. Please chime in if you have used one. I was going to get a K&N filter and black plastic top. i hear those extreme lids that are filters tend to suck in warm air... Also is that true?
I may also make some sort of seal to the cowl with foam and sheet metal. Would the extreme top still be bad then?

I DID use one on an old 400 SBC I had (had a front end collision and ruined it)
and it was good for 2RWHP(dyoned with it and without). Idk how much CFM it gained but it defintely is a cheap mod that works :thumbsup.
BTW there called substacks
ive heard from magazines and people I know who use them that there is a better increase on modified engines (my 400 was stock)
