code 42
what will cause this code 42, code that has to do with the electronic spark timing circuit. i unhooked the connector to adjust base timing at school. when i was coming home the car started slowing down and i would give it throttle and nothing. i kept trying to start it and it would run for a few seconds then die. i unhooked this connector and reconnected it just seeing if it would help, nothing really. then i decided to unhook the battery and reconnected it after about 10 minutes and it started up just fine and i drove it home. What caused this!!!
And on another note, has anyone ever adjusted their timing and after words discovered an oil leak after doing so

Maybe you didn't have a good connection when you left school.
Adjusting timing won't cause an oil leak. You just noticed it.

no i just didnt notice it. i always park on concrete and i have never had an oil leak til now. Its all dry up top from what i can see and feel. but it likes to gather on the driver side screw that holds the torque converter cover on. when i was dynoing the car at school, we were adjusting fuel the week before and there wasnt any oil down when i pulled out. we adjusted timing this week and a kid said he thought he smelt something burning and it smelt like just a rich mixer to me, i looked under the car and there was an oil leak about the size of the bottom of a pop can. ever since that day its been about the size of a nickel
how bad does oil leak when you have a distributor seal go bad or get torn.

Re: code 42
this is to due with the oil leak issue that i had. My question is, has anyone ever had an oil filter go bad on them, as in the seal! It looks like in between the seal and the housing below it, its leaking there where i did my oil change the other day.
