I STILL CANT GET MY BIRD TO STAY RUNNING. I GOT A 91 FIREBIRD 3.1 5 SPEED, AND I DONT HAVE ANY KEYS TO IT, SO I REWIRED THE VATS STUFF, THE FUEL PUMP AND THE STARTER RELAY. I HAVE PUT A NEW FUEL PUMP, FILTER, SPARK PLUGS/WIRES, IGNITION COIL....IT WILL START, BUT IT WONT IDLE, I AM LOSING IT TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY IT WONT RUN, AM I MISSING SOMETHING, ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS. ANYTHING AT ALL!?!?!

 

YES, YELLING PERSON... YOU ARE MISSING SOMETHING and it's not just a [SHIFT] key.

The VATS system cannot simply be rewired. The ECM requires a square wave signal from the VATS module to enable the fuel injectors. You need to either activate the VATS system fully or reprogram the ECM to eliminate VATS entirely. Getting it to crank is only half the battle.

well, i have seen about everything on the vats system...but alot of people are saying that i can go around it, without buying a module. so, it messes with the injectors too?!?!? some places are saying that it is just the starter and fuel pump and others mention the injectors too, ohh well, i will one day get it going

 

screw it, this coming week, i will just take it to the dealer, put a new ignition cylinder and key, and have them reprogram the computer........i will just be absolutely pissed if that doesnt work.
