been having some real bad starting issues with my car...

on moderately hot days 80-90 degress, ill be driving around and ill pull over to like a 7 eleven to get a drink or whatnot. ill get back in my car, turn the key,,power, turn some more to start it and it just wont turnover..

i think the problem is called hot started syndrome..now i have headers on the car, they do have heatshields but its not helping to keep the starter any cooler really, the starter is probably getting sooo hot... so im pretty sure i need a high torque starter!!

now thats not the last of my troubles, same situation ill be driving around pull over shut down go get something get back in and start....this almost always happens now, on all occasions (but not when its really hot) car turnsover and then wont stay on, just dies most times it will then start back up the second time but ive had it happen 3 sometimes 4 times.....its strange because my timing used to be advanced and used to have no problems starting..but i couldent pass inspection with the timing advanced because it effected emissions drastically. so when i restored it back to OE, thats when i started having these problems. i replaced the plugs today (that sure was fun on a TPI motor) it helped somewhat but still the same scenario...

so im pretty sure i need a high torque starter? will this solve it or can it be something else? like the pickup coil (msd ignition) ??? help please!!!

 

i know this is almost a year later, but i have the same problem, i live in georgia and my car is parked outside all day. the car will not start now even when it has cooled off. it was 103 degrees when it stopped working. have you been able to fix this problem?

 

no, im probably going to buy a high torque starter next week and then install it, ill see what the results are
