reverse lights

Engine: 6.0, 305
Transmission: T56,700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.90 9", 2.73 10 bolt
reverse lights
i installed a t56 and i bought a plug for the reverse lights, i soldered the wires together. I used the same gauge wire as the reverse light plug, but i can't seem to get my lights to turn on, i kept switching the wires while in reverse but they still won't go on...does anyone have a suggestion as to why they wont turn on.
