Faulty Knock Sensor ?

Wondering what the symptoms of a faulty knock sensor are ? Someone told me that might be the issue.

Car starts and idles fine in my garage. Even rev's up fine to about 3k rpm (never felt a need to take it higher than that). As soon as I pull out of the garage and go down a slight decline to the street and try to drive away the engine knocks and then idles rough and basically becomes undriveable. If I disconnect the knock sensor will that tell me anything or just make things worse ? would appreciate any help here. Also I believe the engine light lightbulb has gone out - so I haven't been able to get any engine codes

Re: Faulty Knock Sensor ?

you can test the knock sensor, either at auto zone, or by yourself. take a voltmeter, and after disconnecting the wire on the sensor, measure the output of the sensor. then get a 2nd person to take something metal (wrench maybe) and hit the pass side exhaust manifold. this should simulate knock and make the output of the sensor go up.

and btw - just because the check engine lightbulb is out doesnt mean you cant still connect to the car and get codes, just means you need a scanner or that its time to take 30 mins or so and replace it. its not too hard to get the gauges out
