Active Fuel Management--
Has anyone heard of anybody that's put an engine with this capability in it? It's basically chevy's version or the Cadillac Northstar System. It shuts down cylinders when it senses it doesn't need the power. Just to give you an idea of it's capabilities. A friend of mine has a 2007 Avalanch. It's basically the same as my 2006 Avalanch...however his gets 26MPG on the highway and 20 in town. Mine gets 19 and 15. We drove from Clovis NM to Dallas one weekend...it's 6hours one way. When we got there, I had only about 1/4 of a tank left and he still had just over 1/2. I think this would be an awsome upgrade to one of our cars. Man oh man...an extra 150 or so miles on a tank of gas. That would be WAY cool.

You might want to also look at the valve train on that DOD engine. If you can mimmick that, you might have a chance. Short of that, you'll end up with something very close to the old Cadillac "8-6-4" system. If you want to know how well that worked, just do a little googleling and see. It's not at all a new idea.

I know it's not a new idea...and the old 8-6-4 was plagued with problems as I recall from reading aboutit. So to pull something like this off you'll probably have to pull a motor, it's basically a 5.3 litre vortec, and the ECM/harness off of it and install the whole thing in the car. I can't imagine that it would be that much different from putting a fuel injected LS1 in one of our cars would it?
