engine size problem

i just bought an 85 iroc with what i was told was a 350 v8 in it(that was supposidly recently rebiult) and it even has a badge on the rear bumper that says 5.7 tuned port injection. i have been doing some research that has told me there was no 85 350 except a couple sites. is there such a thing as an 85 iroc with a 350 or did i get majorly miss-informed.

Re: engine size problem

I think the '86 year had the first 350s, and only about 86 of them as well. ULTRA RARE. Also, '85 didn't have tuned port. He just added the badge, and maybe pulled an engine from a (say) 1988 Camaro, rebuilt it and dropped it in.
Get a picture of the engine and we can tell you if it's tuned port, and if you get the casting number off the block when can tell you if it's a 305 or a 350 engine.

1987 was the first year for the 350, all the 350 test and promo cars built in 1986 were destroyed with none sold to the public. TPI was first available in 1985 on the 305.

Re: engine size problem

The original 305 motor may have been replaced with a 350. You would have to check the block casting number.

yeah i found that most sites said 86 was technically the first year. it says tuned port injection right on the engine so i know thats right, but where would i find the casting number on it cause i have looked and i cant seem to find it.

Re: engine size problem

check www.mortec.com they've got some info to help you.
You'll want to look at the rear decks, right in front of the tranny BH area. Or the TC cover area. It's not easy to get to, so have fun
