Mechanic Messed UP forced to shift 1000 rpm lower

I had a head gasket job done a few months back... And apart from the horrible *** job he did... he put a heat shield thing on and then i forced to **** at ~4500 rpm as opposed to the 5500 mark i used to.

When driving my car, the car will aproach 45 and then..pretty much stop accelerating... my engine is quite new or professionally rebuilt, and i am sure it was this shade tree mechanic to blame.

Could this possibly be something tied too tightly? Or ionno, all i know i lost the ability to get to the higher rpm's when the redline is 6000/6500 i havent seen that high in almost a year...

Opinions? Help?

If the shift points have changed, he probably didnt adjust the TV cable.

Oh TV cable? What is that? Where is it, and can I with mediocre skill and a few repair books to this myself? Or is this something internal to the engine?

The TV cable controls the line pressures and shift points of the transmission. Every time you take off the intake manifold and throttle body you have to adjust it.

you can do it yourself with no tools. Hopefully that fixes your problems... (it could also be it was misadjusted before the headgasket and he adjusted it)

You never specified which car. Is it the manual?

Re: Mechanic Messed UP forced to shift 1000 rpm lower

The car is a 1988 camaro, 5pd v6...

Yea like the car will NOT go past 4.5k rpm...it doesnt bounce or anything, just it wont let it go past there, the will kinda 'pull' back...

Re: Mechanic Messed UP forced to shift 1000 rpm lower

hmm.

Did you check your timing? Basically check anything that could have changed with the removal of the heads or intake. (timing, vac lines, etc)

sorry to get your hopes up with that!

Re: Mechanic Messed UP forced to shift 1000 rpm lower

never checked the timing, but i guess i have an excuse to buy a timing light now!!!

But i mean in all other rpm's it is fine..

The mechanic was a douche anyways, put all my stuff on backwards, so i am not surprised at all...aiming for a vacuum line job this weekend... trying to study up on materials and directions...

So i will try that first...could like the lifters or some of that stuff be too tight? or would a head gasket not get to that? Im not sure what gets fiddled with during one of those ( i know better, and next time will take it to a more reputable person, lol dont scold me )

Valve lash could be wrong.
