Injector question?

I think my stock injectors are 19 lbs./hr, if I put in 24 lbs./hr will I lose some compression or gain a little horsepower?

Re: Injector question?

19 lb sounds right for the 305. Putting in bigger injectors will cause the ECM to correct as much as it can, but I'm pretty sure the engine will just run rich, maybe fowl up the O2 sensor at some point, maybe clog the converter. If you've improved the air intake, exhaust, you might get some boost from a size bigger but I'd think the 24# might be overkill.

Re: Injector question?

Do you plan on doing any performance mods to the engine?? If you do intake/exhaust/cam etc then you could justify the bigger injectors. But until such time as that happens I wouldnt spend the extra cash. Get into chip tuning and do some of the basic mods for your set up and then once you reach the full potential of your current injectors you can upgrade. Just my thoughts.

Re: Injector question?

The only thing I have planned is the exhaust, and maybe some headers

Re: Injector question?

I thought that you had a TBI equiped engine??? If so then you will not have 19lbhr injectors. You would more than likely have 55lbhr injectors. I dont mean to be rude but you have questions all over the place about different types of stuff. I would suggest that you do some reading in the stickies!! They will have alot of info related to your engine combo and will also help you clarify what type of injection system you have TBI/TPI. I hope that this help's without being rude???

Re: Injector question?

I have a tbi vehicle. btw, i am just kicking a few tires to see what mods are worth doing by ppl who actually do them, those stickies get confusing pretty quick, and you are right I do have 55lbhr injectors, but the jist of my question remains the same, adding a few more lbhr, will it make my car have more horses or less.

Thanks for ur imput guys its really appreciated.

Re: Injector question?

Ok no problem. Once that you have done some mods, more than just exhaust. Maybe headers and an intake upgrade then you can think about some injector mods. One thing with the tbi set up is you can increase your fuel pressure to compensate for small injectors by a fair amount. If you look into the tbi section somewhere you will find an article about Modding the stock fuel pressure regulator or uprgrading to an aftermarket one. If you can find out what you current fuel pressure is you may gain a small amount of power by increasing it buy a couple of PSI. You may want to think about a new fuel pump and a complete tune-up first though. That way you will be starting with a properly running engine without having a bad set of wires or plugs or fuel filter etc. I would say start with the basic's first and then get into some bolt on mods and while your at it get into doing your own chip tuning. Its the only real way to make the power to match your mods.

Re: Injector question?

Tune ups and stuff and ordinary upkeep I have been doing and will continue to do, lol, that I know, its the headers and stuff where I lose my way. Is there anyway to give a tbi motor ram air, of is that just reserved for the tpi cars?
