Car: 91 camaro rs

Engine: 305 tbi

Transmission: t-5

Axle/Gears: 3.08

BACKFIRE

I have a 91 lo3 and I was driving it this morning and it started to cut out and the tach was all over the place. I kept driving and it started to do it again and it backfired and the tach wouldn't move. I got the car home and it stared up and idles fine. What could be causing this?
